Water fasting is the practise of only drinking water and consuming no food for a defined period of time. This means only drinking water, no food or calories consumed. There are multiple triggers for a water fast which could be a desire for weight loss, improved immunity, healing or spiritual reasons. Our fasting motivation was to focus on boosting our immunity and healing at a time when we have never needed a stronger immune system.
The Limits of the Human Body
There is a difference between fasting and starving. Fasting is intentionally choosing to stop eating for a period of time and it is one of the most powerful ways that we can take care of our health.
I understand it is difficult to believe and to comprehend in our society that simply not eating can be so beneficial. We are told from all directions that eating is critical every single day - I have found this to simply not be true. It might not suit everyone, but the scientific evidence is increasingly clear that calorie restriction and regular fasting is one of the most powerful tools for increasing longevity and our overall health.
Remember, you aren’t trapped on an island with no food for three or four days. If you are doing a water fast and start to feel unwell or don’t think you can handle the experience straight away - simply start eating again. There is plenty of food around and it’s something we are all very good at.
How To Do a Water Fast - The Method
Do not consume any food or liquid calories (smoothies, fruit juice). Only drink water, tea and black coffee for three days. We usually look to drink between 3 - 4 litres a day. There is no hard and fast rule for the amount of water as long as you remain feeling hydrated. We recommend beginning with a 24 hour fast (dinner to dinner) to begin your understanding and experience of fasting. You will quickly realise that hunger is a temporary response by the body (a hormone called ghrelin) and it will not last more than a few hours a day - usually around the time we are used to eating, then it will disappear.

The World’s Longest Water Fast Ever Recorded
Angus Barbieri fasted for 382 days and lost 125kg (207kg down to 82kg) by consuming nothing but water, tea and vitamins. Five years later he kept most of the weight off and only weighed 89kg.
